TWU Spartans (0) at the University of Calgary Dinos (3)
(25-23, 25-21, 25-21)

Strong Start Fizzles…

Langley, British Columbia –
After a strong start to the Canada West season the Trinity Western University men’s volleyball team has hit a bump in the road.

Tonight the # 8 ranked University of Calgary Dinos handed the #9 ranked TWU Spartans their 3rd loss in a row, dropping the Spartans 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-21). The loss drops the Spartans to 4-3, while the win improves the Dinos to 3-2 in Canada West league play.

The Spartans started the match strong and were up 23-18 in set one when the wheels fell off. After a serve into the net by the Spartans, Calgary’s Denis Zhukov served 6 straight points to give the Dinos the amazing come from behind win.

“It was very weird for us to be up that much and suddenly lose,” said TWU head coach Ron Pike. “After we lost the first set like that we just could not rebound form it and went into a downward spiral.”

With momentum totally on their side the Dinos took care of the Spartans in the next two sets with identical 25-21 scores.

Luke Bainard (4th yr, outside hitter, Brooklin, ON) led the Spartans with 15 kills, 8 digs and an ace, while rookie of the year candidate Chris Meehan (1st yr, middle/outside, Clearwater, BC) had 11 kills and 4 digs.

Cory Paddock led the Dinos with 8 kills, 8 digs and an ace.

The two teams play again tomorrow night at the University of Calgary with the game time set for 8:00 PM
