SPARTANS OPEN 2008 PRESEASON WITH LOSS TO VIKINGS
-Coach Alderson gets good look at his squad

LANGLEY, British Columbia - Trinity Western University head coach Al Alderson got a good look at 21 of his players against quality competition in Friday evenings 3-1 loss to Western Washington University. The friendly at TWU against the Vikings opened the 2008 preseason for the Spartans.

Kellan Brown (Tacoma, Wash.) with goals in the 16th and 59th minute and Smir Vejo (Trebinje, Bosnia) in the 51st minute led the visitors, while forward David Rowse (4th year, St.Albert, Alta.) scored the lone goal for the Spartans in the 63rd minute.

Rowse got his first goal of the season when he was on the receiving end of a cross from team-mate James Farenhorst (1st year, midfielder, Langley, B.C.). Farenhorst went down the left side of the park and sent a high cross to the far post. Rowse went high over the Vikings defenders and headed the ball past the WWU keeper and into the top right corner of the net.

TWU keepers Andrew Fink (2nd year, Burnaby, B.C.) and Andrew Kowan (1st year, Richmond, B.C.) spilt the goal keeping duties for the Spartans, while WWU's Cameron Copps-Tilley (Vancouver, Wash.) and Christian Warman (Sedro-Woolley, Wash.) split the time for the Vikings.

The Spartans will be back at it tomorrow afternoon when they host Seattle Pacific University. Match time at TWU's Langley, B.C. campus is set for 3 p.m.

Match Notes: The Vikings outshot the Spartans 11-9, while TWU had the edge in corners at 4-3...
