Team Play Humbles Spartans
Winnipeg, Manitoba - On Saturday, November 13 the Trinity Western University men's basketball team concluded their two game series in Winnipeg against the University of Winnipeg Wesmen. The Spartans were down 3pts with 7 minutes to go in the 1st half, when they broke down on the offensive and defensive end of the court. Two minutes later the Wesmen had pushed their lead to 14 points. The Spartans cut into the lead at the half and were only down 9 points, 39-30. The Wesmen came out in the second half and played strong team basketball and pushed their lead back to 17 points. Trinity Western managed to get back to within 8 points with 9 minutes to go, but they were never able to threaten Winnipegs lead. The Wesmen cruised to a 13 point victory, 81-68.
"We were respectable, but in order for us to win at this level we need to play together as a team," commented TWU Coach Stan Peters.
Statistical leaders for the Spartans were Malcolm Campbell (18 points, 3 rebounds) "Malcolm played well, we are starting to get him the ball in good situations, but as a team we didn't rebound very well tonight," said Peters. Statistical leaders for the Wesmen were Luc Buller (14 points) and Joe Dominquez (12 points, 5 rebounds).
The Spartans return home to Langley,BC next week to face the University of Regina Cougars. Game times at David E. Enarson Gym Friday, November 19 and Saturday, November 20 is 8:00 pm.
