Liang Yan, PhD

Part Time Instructor
In the past decades of my life, I have been persistently seeking the truth of the world, the mysteries of life and the meaning of life, and widely involved in study of history, philosophy and religions of the East and the West. When I met Jesus Christ, I finally understood: All the answers are in Him.

Liang Yan, who was born and raised in China, studied Chinese medicine at Hubei College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, but at that time he was more interested in exploring the cultural factors that influenced the formation and development of Chinese medicine than being a clinician. After graduating from the college, he was immediately admitted to the China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medical Sciences (CATCMS), the top academic institution of Chinese medicine in the world, to study for a master's and doctoral degrees. His research program is the influence of ancient Chinese philosophy on the formation and development of traditional Chinese medicine. During this period, he did in-depth study and research on ancient Chinese Taoism, Yin-Yang, Confucianism, divination, religious Taoism and Buddhism. After obtaining his doctorate degree, he was engaged in the research of Chinese medical history and Chinese cultural history in the Institute of Chinese Medical History and Literature, CATCMS. After 1993, he was engaged in management work in CATCM. From 2009 to 2013, he worked (part time) in the Institute of Natural Science History, Chinese Academy of Sciences as Director of Science and Culture Research Center and a research professor. He has published over ten academic books and thirty papers.

In 2011, a real and shocking spiritual experience turned his worldview upside down and he converted to Jesus Christ. In 2013, he gave up his secular work and devoted himself to seeking the truth of the Christian faith. In 2014, he studied at Logos Seminary in California, USA. He graduated in 2016 and accepted the call of the Holy Spirit to engage in research and teaching of Christianity and Chinese culture, and gradually expanded the field of research and teaching to include comparative religion, spiritual warfare, and study of Bible books, Mythology and Culture. Now he teaches courses including Christianity and Chinese Culture, Comparative Religions, Spiritual Warfare, Study of Genesis, Study of Leviticus, New Perspectives on Chinese Mythology, and his teaching institutions include Trinity Western University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, ACTS Seminary, Carry William Theological College, Logos Seminary’s affiliated Chinese Theological schools (four) and Rome Revival Seminary in Italy.
