TWU Spartans (0) at the University of Regina Cougars (3)
(25-16, 26-24, 25-19)
Regina Just A Bit Stronger
Langley, British Columbia – The Trinity Western University women’s volleyball team came out strong in Saturday’s match with the University of Regina Cougars. But the home team was just a bit stronger as the Cougars dropped the Spartans 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-19).
The Spartans played a solid defensive match and were in every set, but a few errors at critical moments ended up costing the Spartans in each set.
“Over all was very pleased that we improved on our defense,” said TWU head coach Carol Hofer. “We played better but Regina was just a bit stronger then us tonight.”
The Spartans were led by “player of the game” Lies Verhoeff (2nd yr, M, Calgary, AB) – 9 kills, 5 digs and rookie of the year candidate Kristen Groot (1st yr, P, Burnaby, BC) – 4 kills, 13 digs, 1 block. Lisa Reynolds – 9 kills, 11 digs and Sam Lawrek 6 kills, 6 digs and 1 service ace, led the Cougars.
“Lies had an outstanding match for us,” said Hofer. “And Kristen play played very steady throughout the entire match.”
The Spartans now head to the University of British Columbia for a midweek match on Wednesday, January 31. Game time at UBC is set for 7:30 PM.
