Langley, British Columbia—This fall, The Career Centre at Trinity Western University is making it easier for Lower Mainland residents to discover their career paths, find jobs and successfully enter the marketplace. The Career Centre recently opened its doors to the public and launched a new web site, making TWU’s information on everything from career exploration to job searching skills available online for the first time.
“We want the community to be able to use and benefit from our services,” says Dr. Elsie Watts Froment, director of The Career Centre. “Our resources can help a wide range of people—high school students, parents looking to help their children in their career search or job search, those looking to start a career or people looking for a mid-life career change.”
The Career Centre’s online information, which can be found at www.twu.ca/career, explores topics like how to find a suitable career path, and offers practical tips on writing resumes, learning interview skills and creating portfolios. The web site also gives employers an opportunity to post jobs online.
“It has something for everyone,” says Dr. Watts Froment. “We want it to be practical and informative, and I think people will find that it is.”
Not only did it open its virtual doors, but The Career Centre recently opened its physical doors to the public. Offering career counselling, computerized personality and interest tests along with a variety of other paid services, members of the community have started to visit the office, interacting with the team of professional counsellors and making use of the career library there.
“Opening our doors and making our services more accessible fits well with the University’s goal to help people discover what they are good at doing, and preparing them to successfully enter that line of work,” says Dr. Watts Froment. “It’s exciting to see people discover what vocation is right for them and find a job within that career field.”
The Career Centre posts approximately 1000 jobs per year, with a large number of those positions filled by job seekers who pass through The Career Centre’s doors. For more information, visit www.twu.ca/career or call 604-513-2017.
