Summer Trips

Summer Trips: May and June 2013

Every summer Global Projects sends small teams of 6-8 students to participate in cross-cultural community development and missions projects - whether that be here in Northern B.C. or all the way around the world in South East Asia. Teams partner with local organizations for 4-6 weeks. A summer team will stretch and challenge you. You will be given the opportunity to never be the same. Application Deadline: November 16th, 2012.  On-line application form here.

Building Bridges with our First Nations Neighbors: Babine Nation, Northern B.C.

The issues surrounding the historical relationship between the church and Native communities is very complex, therefore this trip is intentionally going without a specific agenda. Calvin Williams, a youth pastor from Fort Babine, says that “Trinity is seen as another family in the village.” This is precisely what the trip is about: as family, we as Trinity students are going to love and to be loved in return, to be immersed in a community where we have the unique opportunity to share God’s hope and love through building relationships and living life together with God’s people in Fort Babine.  A small team of 6 students will have the opportunity to spend the month of May living in community and becoming a part of Trinity’s ongoing relationship with our First Nations brothers and sisters in Fort Babine. Dates: April 29th-June 1st. Cost: $950/student.

Heart to Heart: H2H International, Haiti

In 2011, 80% of Haitians lived under the poverty line making it the World’s 19th poorest country. After the devastating earthquake in 2010, Haiti’s greatest obstacles continue to be poverty, corruption and lack of education.  The Red Cross estimates that 7 out of 10 Haitians live on less that 2 US dollars per day. Heart to Heart is a Christian organization that is made up of a children’s home, a school (from Kindergarten to Grade 8) and a church in Grande Goave. Their aim is to help aid and combat Haiti’s growing poverty.  The children’s home currently has 100 children who have lost either one or both parents and have no one to care for them. We are excited to partner with Heart to Heart in all aspects of their ministry and work with alongside them as they serve and provide for Haiti’s next generation.  We hope to take a team of 6 students for 4 weeks in May and June. Dates: Training April 29th-May 2nd; Trip May 13th-June 10th. Cost: $3500/student.

Partnering in Community Development and Ministry: Phenom Pen and outlying provinces, Cambodia.

After many years of war and internal conflict, Cambodia has once again started to grow and flourish—in part aided by international development programs and funds. The nation is slowly beginning to take responsibility, seeking to leave their past behind and starting to recognize the benefits of education. Seeing the need and motivated by a passionate heart for Christ, Chansomien, a local Cambodian and brother of one of our TWU students, has invested his talents and skills in the Trohpangmean village in Kompong Speu province (approx. 47km from Phnom Penh City).  He is helping young children receive basic English lessons and computer skills with the hope of raising up true disciples of Christ. Though financially challenged and lacking in support, Somien has trained a group of students who continue to volunteer and teach others during their weekends. In partnering with this ministry, Trinity students hope to establish long-lasting relationships that will benefit the community’s development not just this coming summer but into the future. The team will work alongside this ministry teaching English lessons, helping out in the community, building relationships with the locals and possibly doing some basic health teaching. These will all be wonderful opportunities to share Christ’s love to both young children and adults in the community. Four-five TWU students will join the two co-leaders for 6 weeks in Cambodia this coming summer.  Dates: Training April 29th-May 2nd; Trip May 13th-June 24th. Cost: $3500/student.

Across the Divide: SERVE Nazareth, Israel

Last summer Global Projects sent their first team to Israel. The six students had such an incredible experience they came back excited to see others catch a vision for  the Middle East. This year the team of 8 will spend time with Serve Nazareth, an organization that helps in the Nazareth community, primarily through Nazareth Hospital. The team will shadow at the hospital and experience the historic Nazareth village. They will also visit holy sites all over the country.  Their intention is to meet and get to know both Arabs and Jews; Muslims and Christians.

The conflict between Israel and Palestine is a sensitive and complicated topic. As Christians, it is difficult to know where to stand on this issue. The team is going to learn to address the conflict with humility and to gain a greater understanding of, and love for, both sides.  Dates: Training April 29th-May 2nd; Trip Dates May 02-June 16th. Cost: $3800/student.

Contact us if you have more questions. Application Deadline: November 16th, 2012.  On-line application form here.
