Women's Basketball (league)
November 6, 1999
T.W.U. Spartans (71) vs. University of Lethbridge (61)
Spartan Women Sweep League Opener
Langley, British Columbia - Everybody played and Trinity Western University was the beneficiary of another women's basketball Canada West victory on November 6. The Spartans beat the University of Lethbridge for the second time in as many nights with a 71-61 win, to improve their mark to 2-0 in league play.
TWU jumped on the Pronghorns early and kept the lead for the entire game. Every member of the Spartan squad was able to get into the game. "It was a total team effort and that is what it is all about right now," stated Head Coach Rebecca Hays.
"We don't need to be rocket scientist to make big plays, but we need to be rocket scientists to keep doing the small things right. We are only flashy with our fundamentals and we can not get away from doing the little things," noted Hays.
Melissa Metz (UL) led the game with 22 points and Katie Hall (TWU) had 20 points and 8 rebounds. Trina Nelson added 14 points for the Spartans.
"Katie is a solid player and is not playing like a true freshman. She leads us with her good court sense and it is exciting to know I will have her for 5 years," commented Hays.
TWU dominated the boards, as they had 51 rebounds to Lethbridge's 29.
TWU will now travel to Winnipeg to play a double-header on November 12-13. Hays added, "I am looking forward to seeing what the rest of the league has to offer."
