TWU Spartans (0) vs. the University of Calgary Dinos (3)
(25-22, 25-22, 25-22)
So close, yet…
Langley, British Columbia – The Trinity Western University men’s volleyball can see it and smell it, but they just cannot grab the few extra points they need to defeat the #3 ranked University of Calgary Dinos.
In another thrilling match at Trinity Western University the #9 Spartans fell to the Dinos 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-22).
Even when they were down at the midpoint of each set the Spartans kept battling to keep Calgary within reach. Unfortunately for the Spartans errors at critical times in each set ended up costing them the sets and the match.
“We had things that we could control, but we just made mistakes at the wrong times,” said TWU head Coach Ron Pike. “Calgary is a top 3 team and they are not going to lose that easily, they are not going to make the mistakes to give you the win.”
4th year middle Marc Huberts (Cloverdale, BC) – 5 kills at 55% kill efficentcy and 3rd year setter Ben Josepheson (Strathmore, AB) each played well for the Spartans. “I thought Mark had a really strong game in the middle for us and Ben really set the ball well tonight,” said Pike.
Statistical leaders for the Dinos were Bill Byma (Calgary, AB) – 14 kills and Denis Zhukov (Almaty, KAZAK) – 11 kills, 4 digs.
There is no rest for the Spartans as they are off to Edmonton, AB to take on the # 5 ranked University of Alberta Golden Bears November 3 & 4.
