Can you feel that nip in the air? Organizers at Trinity Western University do and with it come the busy preparations for the 4th annual Great West Life Spirit of Christmas Celebration. The annual yuletide event will take place this year December 4th & 5th from 4:00-9:00pm daily.
Over the past three years, the Spirit of Christmas has drawn thousands of people from the Lower Mainland to Trinity Western’s Langley campus, providing families and friends with concerts by local and professional musicians, an outdoor living nativity, a petting zoo, craft fair, balloon sculptors, a children’s activity centre, Christmas tree decorating contest, and more.
Michael Wipf, Producer of the Spirit of Christmas says, “It seems like just yesterday that the idea of hosting the Great West Life Spirit of Christmas was discussed. Now it’s become a favorite event for families, members of the greater public, and the TWU community during the Christmas season. We as a production team are excited to once again provide the opportunity to kick off the Christmas season in this way for all attendees.”
Wipf and organizers will be bringing back some favorite talent and some new acts to the stage for this year’s event. Favorites include the highly spirited Vancouver VOC Soul Gospel Choir, Showstoppers, MEI Choirs, and new to the stage will be indie recording artists Zaac Pick and Rachelle Kostelyk.
“We are working hard to guarantee another successful event at this year’s Spirit of Christmas – It’s going to be a great couple of days. Folks will not want to miss it! Now all we need is some snow,” laughs Wipf!
While all events are free, donations are recommended with all proceeds from the event going towards the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army will have their red-kettle campaign in full swing during the Celebration.
TWU’s Executive Director of Development, Andry Tjahyana, says, “Hosting the Great West Life Spirit of Christmas is a way for TWU to not only celebrate this festive and sacred holiday season but it also provides us as a university to spotlight the needs of local charities like the Salvation Army. Giving back to the community and to those less fortunate is what we are all about here.”
